The Managing Director of Benue Investment and Property Company Limited-BIPC, Dr. Raymond Asemakaha has asked the Remedy Earth, a power generating company, to set up a pilot plant in the company.
The Managing Director made the request when he received a delegation of Remedy Earth at the corporate headquarters of the company in Makurdi.
He said the call is complimenting the desire of the Governor of Benue State Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia’s administration to domesticate the electricity law, which empowers states, companies and individuals to generate, transmit, and distribute electricity,
Recall that President Bola Tinubu had in June assented to a bill granting state government access to own and manage their electricity companies.
He emphasized the need for the state to own a power generation plant that would transform the state and stimulate economic activities.
“For us we know that one of the things that stimulate the economy is when you have enough power. So we are looking for options to ensure that the state generates its power and share to its communities.
“We want them to do the plant here and test run it so we can know what they are capable before we will engage them. Gone are the days that people tell stories, we want to see it before we can recommend them to the governor.”
Led by the regional head Africa, Mr. Peace obichere assured that the company was ready to execute the pilot plant for BIPC within nine months.
Obichere added that the company has the manpower and technical know-how that is required to execute the project and will pull it to have the plant come to fruition.
In separate reactions, State Commissioner, Ministry of Cooperative and Rural Development, Honourable Mrs. Joy Luga and Representative of Special Adviser to the Governor on International Investment, Prof.Qrisstuberg Amua expressed optimism that the power plant when completed will provide energy deficit being experienced by citizens of the state.
