The corporate headquarters Abuja of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) stood still as the Authority’s management and staff staged a surprise birthday event in honor of the Ag. Director General, Civil Aviation, Capt. Chris Ona Najomo who turned 65. Capt. Najomo turned 65 on 17th September 2024.
The management and staff of NCAA thronged out in their numbers to herald the Ag.DGCA’s welcome into a red carpet reception and soft music that lightened the mood at the Authority’s building.
At the brief reception ceremony described as the first of its kind since the inception of NCAA about 25 years ago, the management, staff, and union representatives took turns to eulogize the Ag.DGCA for prioritizing aviation safety, security, and staff welfare.
They praised his dedication, industry, and contribution to the growth and development of NCAA and the entire aviation industry.
In her comment, the Director Human Resources and Administration, Dr. Mrs. Anastasia Gbem said NCAA is blessed to have Capt. Najomo because he is making a significant impact.
He made safety and passengers comfort his priority adding that things have turned around in just about eight months into his appointment.
Capt. Najomo has made sure staff are paid on time, staff that are due for promotion get promoted, paid housing arrears, and has promised to pay other staff benefits that have been pending.
He also revamped the regional offices that have been left moribund for years.
Mr. Michael Achimugu, Public Affairs & Consumer Protection, spoke about the reforms the DGCA has introduced at the Authority that have revolutionized consumer experiences.
He eulogized the DGCA for creating a conducive atmosphere for all staff to be productive and thrive.
The Ag,DGCA Capt. Chris Najomo who was visibly emotional about the show of love said he is proud working for the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority.
He reiterated that staff training and retraining remain sacrosanct because the Authority has to build the right competencies to effectively regulate and oversight the industry. He also said the condition of service will be reviewed and improved.
He charged the staff to do what is right and be committed to excellence so the CAA can move forward.
He promised to cooperate with the union but also enlisted their understanding of key management decisions.
He thanked the management and staff for their support thus far attributing his success story to the cooperation of the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr. Festus Keyamo, SAN, his management team, and cooperation from members of staff.
