The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has debunked a report by an online newspaper, not Economy Footprint, suggesting the Authority procured a vehicle worth N250 million without due process.
The Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection of the Agency Mr. Michael Achimugu debunked the claim at a press briefing in Abuja on Monday.
He said the report was baseless and untrue as the Acting Director General Civil Aviation, Nigeria Capt. Chris Najomo has not made any vehicle purchases since he assumed office I December 2023.
he challenged the medium to publish the evidence showing the purchase adding that if that happens, he will resign his appointment as Director and also advised the DG to resign.
The spokesman for the Authority indicated the likely legal action will be taken against the medium and the reporter who published the falsehood without proper investigation.
“NCAA has not paid any amount of money for any vehicle in the world since Captain Najomo came into the office and I challenge the writer to present evidence and I will tender my resignation immediately and not only that I will ask the DG to do such as well,” he said.
On the allegations that Najomo approved some huge amount for the training of staff, he said it is important for the staff to go on training and retraining because as a regulator you must be on top of your game.
He noted that whilst the quoted figure by the medium is false, the Authority must properly train it staff to be able to effectively oversight and regulate the industry.
