Marking a significant shift in leadership, Headquarters 3 Brigade Nigerian Army witnessed the official handling and taking over ceremony held at Bukavu Barracks, Kano as Brigadier General Ahmed Mohammed Tukur assumed command of the Brigade as the 48th Commander while his predecessor Brigadier General Musa Sadiq moved to Nigerian Army Resource Centre Abuja as a Research Fellow.
Brigadier General Sadiq, in his farewell speech, expressed gratitude to the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja NAM, for the opportunity to serve as the outgoing Brigade Commander.
He thanked officers and soldiers of the Brigade for their steadfast support and cooperation. He implored them to continue being disciplined, committed, and dedicated to their work. Additionally, he expressed firmness in the new commander’s capacity of leadership, which he believes will drive the Brigade to greater success.
In his maiden speech, the Commander of the Brigade, Brigadier General Tukur thanked Almighty God for the seamless handing and taking over ceremony. He also expressed gratitude to the COAS for finding him worthy to serve as Brigade Commander, which he termed; “a rare privilege”.
He further noted that to maintain the peaceful atmosphere of Kano State, he is willing to create a conducive environment for all officers and soldiers to effectively discharge their duties within the Brigade’s area of responsibility. He concluded by wishing his predecessor the best of luck in his new office.
Before he was appointed Commander 3 Brigade, Brigadier General Tukur was the Academy Registrar of the prestigious Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) Kaduna.
Highlights of the ceremony include change of insignia, signing of handing over notes, handing over of the command’s flag, hoisting and lowering of flags at the quarter guard, amongst others.
As the event unfold, it signalled the beginning of a new chapter in the Brigade as the important military customs and traditions were observed during the ceremony.
