The Central Bank of Nigeria’s Governor, Mr. Olayemi Cardoso has extolled the women have played in deepening capacity in Nigeria’s financial space, especially the banking sector.
He said with more female MDs than ever in leading financial institutions is a testimony of the contributions women are making in the industry.
“At the CBN, we are proud to be part of this global movement. Women now make up 35% of recently appointed directors and three out of the seven non-executive board members, a firm commitment to fostering inclusive leadership in Nigeria’s financial sector!” Cardoso said at a CBN event to mark the International Women Day held in Abuja.
“Advancing gender equality is not just a moral imperative—it’s an economic necessity” he stated.
Cardoso reiterates CBN’s commitment to breaking barriers for women through leadership programmes, mentorship, and policies supporting work-life balance. “Diversity drives innovation, and we will continue to champion women’s growth in the workplace”.
According to him, it is important for all to commit to ensuring that every woman at the Bank – and across our nation, has the opportunity to rise, lead, and thrive.
“Refuse to play into stereotypes! Desist from making excuses because you are a woman. Be bold, be strong, and always seek to make a meaningful impact!” – Emem Usoro, Deputy Governor, Corporate Services at the CBN said at the event.
The highpoint of the event was inspiring women with awards for their outstanding contributions.
