Naira records massive gains against US dollar as foreign reserves hit $45.61bn

The naira recorded significant appreciation against the United States dollar on Tuesday at the official foreign exchange market.

The Central Bank of Nigeria’s data showed that the Naira strengthened further to N1,419.07 against the Dollar on Tuesday, up from N1,429.3054 traded on Monday.

This means that the Naira recorded a N10.24 gain against the dollar on a day-to-day basis.

On Tuesday’s Naira gain against the dollar is the highest so far since official currency trade began in 2026.

Meanwhile, at the black market, the Naira remained stable at N1480 per dollar Tuesday, the rate traded on Monday, according to multiple Bureau De Change operators in Wuse Zone 4, Abuja.

The uptrend in Naira comes as the country’s external reserves further rose to $45.61 billion as of January 5th, 2026, up from $45.57 billion recorded on January 2.
