The Group Managing Director of Benue Investment and Property Company Limited (BIPC), Dr. Raymond Asemakaha-CFA has directed an immediate asset optimization of the Wannune Tomato Factory located in Tarka Local Government Area of Benue State to determine the requirements for its revitalization.

Dr. Asemakaha gave the directive during an inspection visit to the facility after performing the commissioning of BIPC Bakery in Gboko.

While expressing concern over the extent of vandalization at the site, the GMD said Italian technicians would be engaged to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the factory’s assets to guide the government’s next steps toward its revival.

The GMD also ordered that security personnel be mobilized to safeguard the facility from further vandalization.

He assured that once operational, the factory would boost local economic activities, create employment opportunities, and enhance value addition for tomato farmers.

Speaking during the visit, the Commissioner for Commerce, Trade and Investment, Hon. Alumo Orpin, disclosed that the state government had issued an ultimatum to the private partner engaged during the last administration, which expires at the end of October 2025. He noted that upon expiration, the government would revoke the partnership if the terms were not met.

Hon. Orpin commended the proactive interest of the BIPC leadership and pledged the ministry’s full support toward the factory’s restoration.

Also speaking, the Board Chairman of BIPC, Chief Lady Elizabeth Shuluwa, reaffirmed the board’s commitment to ensuring the factory’s revival.

She emphasized that the plant is crucial for enabling farmers to earn fair returns on their produce and maximize profit from their labour.
