Gen Olufemi Oluyede assumes duty as New CDS

General Olufemi Oluyede on Thursday officially assumed duties as the Chief of Defence Staff, CDS, following successful Senate screening on Wednesday.

At a handover ceremony characterized by signing of official handover notes, held at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja, on Thursday 30th October, 2025. former CDS General Christopher Musa.decorated General Oluyede with the Defence Headquarters insignia and Armed Forces medal.

The ceremony also witnessed the presentation of DHQ flag that was used during General Musa.tenure to him .

the event was attended by senior military officers, government officials, and distinguished guests.

In his remarks after officially taking over, General Oluyede expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for entrusting him with the responsibility to lead the nation’s Armed Forces.

He pledged to build on the foundation laid by his predecessor, ensuring continuity and commitment to national security and unity.

The new CDS emphasized the importance of collaboration among the Army, Navy, and Air Force, as well as with other security agencies.

Earlier in his farewell remarks, General Musa reflected on his journey of service, highlighting the progress recorded under his leadership.

He thanked President Tinubu for the opportunity to serve and extended his appreciation to officers and men of the Armed Forces for their loyalty, sacrifice, and dedication.
