He made this known on 6 March 2026, when a team from the Defense Security Cooperation University (DSCU) Nigeria Programme paid him a courtesy visit at Army Headquarters in Abuja.

Lieutenant General Shaibu stated that professional military education remains a cornerstone in building a modern and adaptive fighting force capable of confronting the myriad of security challenges confronting the nation. He disclosed that the Nigerian Army will continue to subscribe to relevant DSCU courses, particularly those designed to enhance defence management, logistics systems, and institutional capacity across the Service.

The COAS further stressed that exposing personnel to specialised training programmes and international academic platforms will sharpen strategic thinking, improve defence management practices, and deepen institutional knowledge. He added that such initiatives are essential in preparing troops to effectively manage complex operational and administrative responsibilities in contemporary military environments.

In his remarks, the leader of the delegation, Major General Miguel Casteyanoss (Rtd), explained that DSCU’s engagement with the Nigerian Army focuses on institutional capacity building to help partner nations sustain and replicate military capabilities over time. He emphasised that the university provides specialised courses and advisory support that strengthen defence governance, logistics management, and policy development.

Major General Casteyanoss added that ongoing collaboration includes initiatives to support institutional systems such as material readiness, reporting, and life-cycle management frameworks.

He expressed confidence that continued participation of Nigerian Army personnel in DSCU programmes will reinforce professional standards, institutional resilience, and long-term capability development within the Nigerian Army.
