Entrepreneur Development International Limited (EDIL) has officially launched a transformative entrepreneurship initiative aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s business landscape through capacity building, access to funding, and strategic support.
The initiative, driven by a commitment to addressing challenges in entrepreneurial development, is designed to empower entrepreneurs with the knowledge, resources, and networks required to build sustainable businesses that contribute to economic growth.
The launch event, held in Abuja on April 14th 2026, brought together seasoned entrepreneurs, business leaders, and stakeholders from both the public and private sectors.
Speaking at event, the National Coordinator of EDIL, Mr. Daniel Osamede Ehanah, emphasized that the organization is committed to providing practical solutions to the challenges facing entrepreneurs in Nigeria.
He noted that EDIL seeks to identify viable funding opportunities, equip serious entrepreneurs with relevant skills, and foster an enabling environment for business growth.
According to him, the platform is structured to bridge gaps in market research, provide clear operational guidelines, and reduce business failure often caused by lack of capital. He further highlighted EDIL’s focus on building mentorship frameworks that enable entrepreneurs to access both local and international loans and grants.
Mr. Ehanah outlined two key participation categories under the platform. Category A is designed for certified and scalable startups, with beneficiaries eligible to access grants of up to ₦10 million upon submission of a formal business proposal. Category B targets artisans and traders, who can access grants of up to ₦5 million by submitting a simplified business story proposal. He reiterated that the initiative goes beyond funding by offering mentorship and guidance to ensure long-term success.
Delivering a keynote presentation, Amb. Engr. Augustine Chigbolu, a partner of EDIL, spoke on the topic “Challenges of Attracting Direct Foreign Investment to Support Homegrown Enterprises in Nigeria.” He examined Nigeria’s economic environment and how it is perceived by foreign investors, while advocating for stronger support for local industries. He cited China as an example of a nation that leveraged its domestic economy to achieve global economic prominence.
Also speaking at the event, Engr. Norton Ned Jessup, Chief Operating Officer of Gas Group International Corporation, highlighted the economic opportunities within Nigeria’s environmental sector. He noted that effective waste management and recycling systems could significantly boost the nation’s economy independent of government reliance.
In her remarks, Chief Dr. Mrs. Barr. Mary Ekpere Etta, former Director General of the National Centre for Women Development (NCWD), emphasized the critical role of empowerment in national development. She encouraged entrepreneurs to embrace skill acquisition and agricultural ventures as viable solutions to the country’s current economic challenges.
In his closing remarks, Mr. Mike Wang, Director of EDIL, reiterated the organization’s commitment to addressing the financial constraints faced by Nigerian entrepreneurs. He drew parallels with China’s economic growth, highlighting the importance of leveraging local innovation and technology to drive sustainable development.
The EDIL initiative is positioned as a comprehensive platform that not only provides financial support but also equips entrepreneurs with the tools and mentorship needed to succeed in a competitive business environment.
Earlier, the Programme and Administrative Officer, Mrs. Susan, welcomed participants and provided insights into EDIL’s mission.
She described the platform as a gateway for entrepreneurs to access funding opportunities and encouraged attendees to take advantage of the initiative by registering.
