Troops of Sector 2 Operation FANSAN YAMMA through sustained counter-terrorism and search-and-rescue operations successfully rescued 7 more kidnapped victims and thwarted coordinated abduction attempts across Katsina and Zamfara States as part of ongoing unwavering search and rescue operation to eradicating terrorism and banditry in the North West region.

On 16 June 2026, in Katsina State, troops conducting Operation CLEAN SWEEP 3 intensified offensive against terrorist enclaves in Matazu Local Government Area. The operation, aimed on building on recent successful rescue of the spouse of the late Major General Rabe Abubakar by further dismantling terrorist networks and freeing captives. Accordingly, troops targeted identified terrorist hideout in Fafu Village, Matazu LGA.

Overwhelmed by the aggressive assault and superior firepower of the troops , the terrorists abandoned their camp and abducted victims. Troops cleared the terrorists camp and rescued 4 kidnap victims who are currently receiving medical attention for injuries sustained during the captivity.

In a related development troops deployed in Zamfara State foiled a kidnapping attempt in Zurmi town, Zurmi LGA. The terrorists had infiltrated the community with the intent to abduct residents. Responding swiftly to a distress call, troops mobilized to the scene and engaged the terrorists in a fierce firefight. The terrorists, unable to withstand the overwelming fire from troops abandoned their mission and fled. Following a thorough clearance and exploitation of the area, troops rescued 3 abducted victims , ensuring their safety and return to their families

These operational successes underscore Operation FANSAN YAMMA relentless commitment to protecting lives and property across the North West. The troops remain resolute in sustaining offensive operations to deny terrorists and bandits any freedom of action, ensuring that peace and normalcy are fully restored to all affected communities.
