This was contained in a statement signed by the Director of Naval Information, Navy Captain Abiodun Folorunsho.

The investiture ceremony, held on Thursday, 20 August 2026 in Abuja, was themed _“Leading Through Transformation: The Human Element in Modern Leadership.”_

Speaking at the event, Vice Admiral Abbas expressed appreciation to the Governing Council, Management and members of NIM for the recognition. He described the Fellowship as both an honour and a renewed call to greater responsibility, continuous learning and service.

The CNS noted that the theme was particularly relevant to contemporary leadership, stressing that organizations are operating in an environment shaped by rapid technological advancement and complex security and economic realities.

He observed that while technology and systems enhance organizational capability, people remain central to achieving meaningful and sustainable transformation.

According to him, the principle is especially applicable to the Armed Forces where ships, aircraft, weapons and other sophisticated systems can only achieve their intended purpose when operated by trained, motivated and committed personnel.

He said his Command Philosophy places emphasis on accountability, professionalism and personnel welfare as key enablers of a highly professional and operationally effective Nigerian Navy.

“Effective leadership goes beyond directing personnel or managing resources. Leaders must create the conditions for their people to understand the mission, take responsibility and remain inspired to give their best in service,” he stated.

Vice Admiral Abbas added that the Fellowship was a reminder that leadership is a continuous journey of learning, reflection and service, and pledged to uphold the values of professionalism and ethical leadership.

He also acknowledged NIM for its role in promoting sound management practices and developing leaders across the public and private sectors.

The conferment was conducted alongside the presentation of Merit Awards, Life Membership Awards and other Fellowships to distinguished personalities.
