ACOE Chairman, Comrade Sola Akingboye, made the call in a press statement on Thursday in Abuja to commemorate the anniversary.

Akingboye, while extending the association’s goodwill to Nigerians at home and in the diaspora, said the independence anniversary offered an opportunity for citizens to reflect on the nation’s journey, achievements and challenges since gaining independence.

He urged Nigerians to remain committed to the unity and peaceful coexistence of the country, irrespective of ethnic, religious, political or geographical differences.

According to him, Nigeria’s diversity should be regarded as a source of strength and an opportunity to build a more inclusive and prosperous nation.

Akingboye said active participation in elections was essential to strengthening democracy and ensuring that elected representatives remained accountable to the people.

He called on political actors, civil society organisations, the media and other stakeholders to promote issue-based campaigns and peaceful engagement before, during and after the elections.

The chairman further urged Nigerians to shun violence, hate speech, misinformation and other actions capable of threatening the country’s peace and democratic stability.

He said the media, particularly online platforms, had a responsibility to provide citizens with credible information and promote responsible public discourse.

Akingboye called on Nigerians to use the independence anniversary to renew their faith in the country and contribute positively to its growth and development.

He said ACOE remained committed to supporting responsible journalism, national unity and democratic values, while urging citizens to work collectively towards building a peaceful, prosperous and united Nigeria.

He wished Nigerians a happy 66th Independence Anniversary and expressed optimism that the country would continue to overcome its challenges and realise its full potential.
