The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, is driving sustained improvements in the Nigerian Army education system through targeted interventions aimed at upgrading infrastructure, enhancing teaching and learning facilities, and providing conducive environments for academic excellence across Command Schools nationwide.
The Acting Corps Commander Education (Ag CC Edn), Brigadier General Yusha’u Dogara Ahmed, highlighted the impact of the interventions during an assessment tour of Command Secondary Schools in Benue and Katsina States.
The tour, which commenced on 24 September 2026, was designed to evaluate infrastructure, teaching and learning facilities, administration and other requirements for effective educational delivery.
At Command Secondary School Makurdi, Brigadier General Ahmed inspected classrooms, students’ hostels, the dining hall, library and projects executed through the COAS intervention initiative. He also engaged staff, students and key stakeholders, including representatives of the Benue State Ministry of Education, Parent-Teacher Association and Old Students’ Association.
The assessment revealed notable improvements in the school’s infrastructure and learning environment following the COAS intervention. Brigadier General Ahmed commended the sustained commitment of the COAS to repositioning Nigerian Army schools for improved educational outcomes. He urged school authorities to ensure proper maintenance, security and optimal utilisation of the upgraded facilities.
As part of the visit, the Ag CC Edn and his delegation paid a courtesy call on elder statesman, Alhaji Shaibu Dahiru, in recognition of his longstanding support for the development of Command Secondary School Makurdi. The engagement featured prayers for the Chief of Army Staff, presentation of a souvenir and a group photograph.
The tour also covered Command Secondary School Boys Faskari and Command Secondary School Girls Barkiya in Katsina State. The respective Commandants briefed the Ag CC Edn on academic activities, administration, infrastructure and areas requiring further attention. Brigadier General Ahmed conducted on-the-spot assessments of facilities and interacted with personnel.
The tour forms part of efforts by the Nigerian Army Education Corps to consolidate ongoing reforms and ensure that investments in Army schools translate into improved teaching, learning and academic standards. Findings from the assessment are expected to guide further interventions aimed at addressing identified gaps.
The ongoing interventions underscore the COAS’ commitment to building a modern, functional and sustainable Army education system that supports quality education, character development and academic excellence.
