Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have overrun a Lakurawa terrorists’ enclave in Waria Forest, Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
The clearance operation which was conducted on 15 October 2026, led to the neutralisation of several terrorists and recovery of weapons and five motorcycles.
According to a statement signed by the Media Information Officer, Joint Task Force (North West), Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, troops of Sector 2 advanced through identified terrorists’ enclaves along Alela, Bilange and Kandam villages towards Waria Forest and made contact with the terrorists.
“During the firefight, troops dominated the terrorists with superior firepower, forcing them to abandon their positions and flee deeper into the forest,” the statement said.
He said troops subsequently pursued the fleeing terrorists, neutralising some of them in the process.
“Further exploitation of the area led to the destruction of the terrorists’ camps and all life-support structures, as well as the recovery of weapons and five motorcycles.
“Troops have continued to maintain a strong operational presence in the general area, sustaining clearance and domination operations to deny terrorists freedom of action and enhance the security of surrounding communities,” Danja added.
He said the latest success underscores the commitment of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to dismantling terrorist enclaves, denying terrorists safe havens and restoring lasting peace and security across the Joint Operations Area.
The Theatre Command commended the troops for their courage, resilience and sustained operational efforts, and urged members of the public to continue supporting ongoing operations by providing timely and credible information on suspicious movements and activities within their communities.
