The Democratic Front (TDF) has expressed surprise at what it described as the display of insensitivity by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for not paying staff salaries for over a year.

It said in a statement by its Chairman, Mallam Danjuma Muhammad, and Secretary, Chief Wale Adedayo that it

was irresponsible for a party with a reputation for accusing the President Bola Tinubu administration of being the cause of hunger and poverty in Nigeria to neglect to pay its workers.

The statement read, “We condemn the ADC for being hypocritical in crying more than the bereaved by exaggerating the narrative of hardship and poverty in Nigeria, while actively contributing to the rising national poverty index in refusing to pay staff salaries in the last year.

“By its unpardonable failure to ascribe dignity to labour, the ADC and its leaders have shown gross incompetence and inability to manage the Nigerian economy if given the opportunity.

“Having displayed such an anti-worker posture, ADC would do worse to Nigerian workers if voted into power in 2027.

“We, however, believe that ADC’s irresponsible action is not unconnected with the antecedents of the party’s Presidential Candidate, Atiku Abubakar, National Chairman, David Mark, and the National Secretary, Rauf Aregbesola.

“A quick check on their individual records revealed that most of Atiku Abubakar’s private companies have folded up, owing to lack of regular payment of staff salaries. On the other hand, Sen. David Mark notably presided over a Senate that watched 27 states owe workers wages without acting, and Rauf Aregbesola, who was known as the governor who paid workers half salaries for months in Osun State.

“They clearly all have a reputation of being anti-workers and anti-people.

“It is sadly unpalatable to note that the trio who are all trailed by a history of anti-people administration would be the ones in the forefront of opposition against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who holds a record of enviable leadership that is delivering development and prosperity to Nigerians.”

TDF called on Nigerians to reject the ADC and its leadership for their infamous contributions to the country’s poverty index while supporting an administration which is embarking on multiple

poverty alleviation measures.
