The Military Pensions Board (MPB) has honoured a 98-year-old retired Warrant Officer, Echenim Emmanuel Ewemiwe, in recognition of his years of service and contributions to the Nigerian military.
The veteran was celebrated at Ute-Erumu, near Agbor, in Ika North East Local Government Area of Delta State, during a special birthday visit by a delegation of the Board led by its Chairman, Major General J.E. Osifo.
The delegation included Navy Commodore Galadima Ciroma, Director of Navy Pensions; Squadron Leader Aliyu Mohammed; and the Delta State Chairman of the Nigerian Legion, Captain Robertson Akpojovwo.
The visit, which coincided with Ewemiwe’s 98th birthday, was described as a demonstration of the Board’s recognition of the sacrifices of military veterans and its commitment to their welfare and dignity.
Speaking at the event, Major General Osifo acknowledged the contributions and sacrifices of military veterans across the country, stressing that their welfare and well-being remained a priority for the Board.
He reaffirmed the MPB’s commitment to identifying with veterans and ensuring that their service to the nation is recognised and appreciated.
The celebration featured colourful cultural displays and traditional dances, with family members, friends and well-wishers joining the veteran to mark the milestone.
Other dignitaries at the occasion included the Aruwe of Ute-Erumu, clergy members and community leaders.
Speaking on behalf of the family, retired Master Warrant Officer Chuks Echenim expressed appreciation to the MPB Chairman for travelling to Delta State to celebrate with their father and honour him on his special day.
The gesture, according to the Board, underscores its commitment to honouring the sacrifices of former military personnel and recognising their contributions beyond the administration of pension benefits.
