The Minister of Transportation, Sen. Said Ahmed Alkali has promised to revive the mass transportation scheme in the country. This is even as he promised to sustain the railway projects begun by the previous Minister of Transportation, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi.
He stated this during his inaugural address when he assumed office as the Minister.
“I will also ensure a sustainable collaboration with related ministries, agencies, and corporate entities to reactivate the road transport and mass transit operations in the Country” he promised.
“Similarly, I will carefully study prevailing economic trends, undertake the provision, modernization, rehabilitation, planning, and development of the rail transport sector with efficient security services to support the realization of the primary purpose of government” he stated.
“This initiative will no doubt maximize the potentials embodied in the recent Constitutional alterations that moved rail transport services from the exclusive list to the concurrent list. It will also reduce the frequent menace on our roads characterized by accidents, kidnappings, and armed robbery” he stated.
He also promised to “support the provision of the necessary conducive environment while at the same time, maintaining zero tolerance to indiscipline, laxity, inefficiency and any form of misconduct in the discharge of any official responsibilities.”
“I will dispassionately study the handing over notes and in the days to come, take briefs from the Permanent Secretary Departmental Directors, and Heads of Agencies under the Ministry. This exercise will include familiarization visits to agencies to enlighten with credible information for strategic and detailed reform in the Ministry and its agencies to enhance service delivery” he said.
