The Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia has deployed 100 buses into the Benue state mass transit scheme to mitigate the high cost of transportation.
Recall the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had announced N5bn to all the states and the FCT to be used for palliatives in the states following fuel subsidy removal.
The Governor handed over 100 newly procured buses to Benue Links Transport Company, a state government company on Thursday, November 30, 2023 at the main park of the company in Makurdi, Governor Alia said the 100 buses are one of the palliatives strategies his administration has provided to cushion the effect of fuel subsidy removal on Benue people.
Gov Alia encouraged Benue links to open more routes even as he commended them for the new routes created.
He, however, appealed to the company to strictly monitor the activities of drivers with a view to checking arbitrary hike in fares, over loading and due observation of traffic rules and regulations.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Power and Transport, Oga Matthew Omale appreciated the Governor for keeping to his words, and assured him and the people of Benue state that the buses will be used strictly for the purpose they were procured.
