The  Minister of Transportation Senator Said Ahmed Alkali at the International Road Federation International Road Federation (IRF) World Congress sought collaboration with IRF on research and technology transfer.
He led a delegation of the Ministry and the Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology to participate at the Congress holding in Istanbul from October 14-18, 2024.
A statement from the ministry said the delegation’s participation will contribute to advancement of the Nigeria’s transport sector through knowledge sharing, networking, and exposure to innovative solutions.
During the congress, the  Minister had a side discussions with the President of the International Road Federation (IRF) Mr. Dimitris Mandalozis on a possible collaboration between the Nigerian government and IRF in the areas of research and transfer of technology for the advancement of transportation sector in the country, the statement indicated.
The Minister also met with the Head of Moroccan National Road Safety Agency Mr. Abdessadek Maafa, where they discussed on the upcoming 4th Global Ministerial Conference on Road Safety scheduled to hold in Marrakesh, Kingdom of Morocco between 18-20 February, 2025.
The Minister promised to mobilise all relevant stakeholders from Nigeria to attend the conference to actualise the achievement of the second Nigeria Road Safety Strategy (NRSSII) 2021-2030, where road traffic crashes result in zero fatalities and overall goal of a 50% reduction in road traffic fatalities by 2030.
The recent inauguration of the National Road Safety Advisory Council by the Vice President Kashim Shettima further demonstrates the need for Nigeria’s participation at the 4th Global Ministerial Conference to cement its commitment on the global space.
