The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Western Marine Command, has confirmed a fire incident at its premises in Apapa, Lagos, on Monday 28 September 2026.
The Command disclosed this in a statement on 29 September 2026 by Ag. Customs Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Customs, Nwosu Clarine Chibunna, for the Ag. Customs Area Controller, Western Marine Command.
According to the statement, the incident occurred at approximately 10:35 hours when a fire outbreak was detected within some offices of the Command.
Chibunna said officers on duty immediately activated emergency response protocols and made efforts to contain the fire, while personnel of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service arrived at approximately 11:25 hours and successfully brought it under control.
Preliminary assessment established that the fire affected some property and office equipment within the premises, with thick smoke initially noticed emanating from the newly constructed conference hall.
The Service however confirmed that no loss of life or injury was recorded.
The Command appreciated prompt response of its officers and Lagos State Fire Service, assuring public and stakeholders that core operations remain unaffected and continue as normal.
It added that a committee has been constituted to investigate immediate and remote causes of the fire and make recommendations to prevent recurrence, reaffirming commitment to maintaining highest standards of safety, security and operational efficiency.
