Troops Foil Kidnap Attempts, Rescue 10 Victims in Zamfara

Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA (JTF NW OPFY), have foiled two separate abduction attempts and rescued 10 victims in different locations across Zamfara State.

This was disclosed in a statement on Sunday 28 September 2026 by Media Information Officer of the Task Force, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja.

Danja said on 27 September 2026, troops of Sector 2 in Maru Local Government Area received information that terrorists had abducted villagers at Kade Daba Village, Kanoma District. Troops swiftly mobilised and engaged the terrorists, rescuing three victims immediately, with one more rescued during exploitation, bringing total to four.

In a second incident same day, troops on picketing operation along Tsafe–Funtua road in Tsafe LGA heard sporadic gunshots ahead at Kwanoni. The troops mobilised to the location and encountered terrorists withdrawing through high ground, engaging them and forcing them to flee in disarray.

He noted that before troops arrived, the terrorists had set a Sharon vehicle ablaze while attempting to abduct its occupants, who escaped before it was engulfed. Troops also rescued six persons from another vehicle that lost control due to gunshots and towed it off the road to allow free flow of traffic.

The Theatre Commander, JTF NW OPFY, commended troops for vigilance, swift response andu professionalism, reaffirming resolve to sustain offensive operations and urging public to provide timely credible information to security agencies.
